Doxology (For Paul Burr)

6/15/2015

My wife's family often sings this hymn as a sort of singing grace before holiday meals. The lyrics, often referred to as the Doxology in many churches, are actually the last verse of a longer hymn, Awake, My Soul, and with the Sun written by Thomas Ken in 1674.

The score is attributed to Luis Bourgeois  (1510-1561) who, interestingly, was jailed at one point in his career for modifying some well known hymns without a license. (Egads!)

The lyrics are:
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

AKE Trio: Andrew Innes - alto saxophone & musical saw, Kim Patch - violin, Eric Smalley - upright bass
